School hosts ‘Games of the Trimester’

Five teams were featured Thursday as part of the “Games of the Trimester” initiative, an effort to boost viewership of sports other than basketball and football, Athletic Director Vince Orlando said. Potential applicants from feeder schools such as John Thomas Dye and Curtis attended to get a sense of what games are like.

The varsity field hockey team beat Glendora 1-0. The  varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen volleyball teams each defeated their respective Chaminade opponents, while boys’ water polo beat Damien High School 12-3.

Free tacos were available to all faculty and staff in attendance. The Student Athlete Advisory Council gave away free t-shirts, and current and prospective students participated in a halftime competition during the field hockey game.

“The fact that we finally had fans, not just parents, definitely played a huge role in game. We were all excited to have a pretty good turn out, so we put in 100 percent of our effort in the game to represent our school and beat our biggest rival in the league,” Annie Wasserman ’13, who scored the field hockey team’s lone goal in their win, said.
