Shortstop to attend Brown University

Shortstop Brian Ginsberg ’14 committed to play for Brown University on July 2.

“I just felt the atmosphere of Brown matched my personality more than any other school,” Ginsberg said. “It’s a bunch of really competitive people who want to succeed, but it’s also a very relaxed and homey place.”

Ginsberg was recruited to play shortstop, the position he played for the Wolverines last year. In 2013, Ginsberg tallied a .337 batting average and contributed to a Division 1 CIF Southern Section Championship and a national championship, among other awards.

“Even though I know it’s rare, my goal is to come in and play shortstop my freshman year,” Ginsberg said. “That being said, I’m prepared to do whatever the coaches feel is best for the team, so if they feel that having me play 2nd or 3rd my freshman year, or any other year for that matter, will help the team, I’m ready to do it.”

The Bears suffered a 3-17 Ivy League conference record last year, but Ginsberg says he is not worried about the program.

“It doesn’t bother me that they struggled last year,” Ginsberg said. “In fact, I spent a lot of time talking to the relatively new recruiting coordinator hired just last year, and I could see how hungry and dedicated he and the rest of the coaching staff are to turning the program around.”

Ginsberg is expected to return as shortstop for his senior season, where the Wolverines will attempt to win the Mission League title for the fourth year in a row.
