Girls’ volleyball team falls to La Salle in CIF Division IA finals

After defeating Mission League rival Notre Dame in a down-to-wire overtime win in the CIF semifinals, the girls’ varsity volleyball team fell to La Salle, the number one team in the bracket, in three sets yesterday at Santiago Canyon College in Orange County.

The Wolverines remained competitive in all three sets throughout the match, but lost each by respective scores of 22-25, 20-25, and 17-25. The squad played primarily well on the front line with Rachel Savage ’15, Josephine Kremer ’14, Arielle Strom ’14, Kayla Dillard ’15, and Mia Natsis ’14 each having momentous shifting plays throughout each set. The Wolverines particularly had a hard time in the back row due to Jewls Tavera ’15, the starting setter for the Lancers, who tricked the Wolverines on the last play of the match to take the CIF Division IA title.

Although the Wolverines were Runner-Ups to the 5th ranked team in Calif., they will continue their season onto the State bracket where they will match-up against Torrey Pines this Tuesday at. The game will be the squad’s second matchup against the Falcons this year, as they lost to them in two sets during the Cali Challenge semifinals in Oct.
