Chamber Singers bond while singing at retreat

Singers honed their group performance and individual skills during the 13th annual Chamber Singers Fall Retreat at Camp Wrightwood Sept. 5-6.
Performing arts teacher Rodger Guerrero, who chaperoned the retreat with accompanist Sara Shakliyan, organized the rehearsals. Chamber Singers section leaders planned additional bonding activities for the 40 singers who attended the event.
“Each retreat is different because of the students and music involved,” Guerrero said.
Boys and girls were separated in some rehearsals to improve aspects of their sectional performance and joined together for remaining rehearsals.
Private voice teacher Desiree La Vertu, a friend of Guerrero’s, joined the retreat to coach sections.
In addition to singing and rehearsing, attendees participated in a group discussion at the end of the retreat which was desiged to build connections with one another and to discuss the coming year.
“[The retreat] was a great bonding experience, I think for everyone, and we really got to know each other better,” first-time attendee Elizabeth Gaba ’17 said.
Section leader Landon Fadel ’15 said that the retreat emphasizes building a unified choir.
