Model UN members participate at conference

Eleven students travelled to Mira Costa High School to take part in the LAIMUN conference on Saturday.

Students represented Australia and Botswana in 11 committees, split between novice, in which only students who had been to two or fewer conferences could attend, and advanced committees. Topics included the promotion of emerging markets and the use of child slave labor.

Within each committee, three students could receive either a commendation award or an outstanding award. There was also an award for the best delegate overall.

Eleanor Halloran ’18 won a commendation award for representing Australia on the Novice United Nations Environment Program.

“I was super surprised that I did so well, but proud,” Halloran said.” I’m glad that I won, and [the conference] was super fun.”
