Rosetta Stone website to publish Pike’s article

Middle School Dean of Faculty and Latin teacher Moss Pike wrote an article, “Elevate and Empower: World Language Instructors as Key Players in the Shift to Competency-Based, Blended Learning,” which will be published online in late September for Rosetta Stone’s website and education blog Getting Smart.

“I wanted to show that language instructors with peculiarities and idiosyncrasies are integral parts of the community,” Pike said.

“It will argue that language teachers are often leaders in the community and pioneer the shift toward using technology and creating blended learning environments.”

Pike wrote “The Next Generation of World Language Learning” last fall about the direction of language education in the future and was asked to write for the websites again.

“I based the [Next Generation] article on my own professional developments and experiences,” Pike said. “I’m really into the direction of language study. I think it is the perfect time for language teachers to sit down and think how we are relevant.”

Pike wrote a blog post for Getting Smart this summer as a prelude to the upcoming article.

Pike will give a presentation of “Elevate and Empower” at the International Association for K-12 Online Learning conference in Palm Springs in November and will continue to write for Getting Smart.

“It feels great to have a second paper published, since it falls directly in line with what I do on campus every day,” Pike said. “I’m excited to share these ideas with the wider teaching community and hope that it inspires us to do even more.”
