Cheer and Community Council raise money for hurricane victims

Community Council and the varsity cheer team hosted a bake sale Sept. 20 to raise money for Americares, an organization helping to save lives and rebuild communities in areas affected by Hurricanes Maria, Irma and Harvey.

“We were all definitely pretty shook after hearing about Hurricane Harvey; it just took a while to get wheels turning and things in motion,” cheerleader Natalie Blut ’18 said. “But thanks to [Rachel Grode ’19] and Community Council, we were able to put things together and hopefully we can make a big difference.”

A variety of baked goods provided by members of the cheer team and of Community Council were sold using a name your price system.

“There’s not really a set number [to pay],” cheerleader Maya Golob ’18 said. “We want to help; we’ll do anything. Anything is better than nothing.”

Organizers said the bake sale made over $2000, with students from all three grades participating.
