Girls’ basketball CIF run ends on a buzzer beater

The varsity girls’ basketball team’s turnaround season ended in heartbreak on Wednesday, Feb. 21 when Santiago of Corona guard Lindsay Salazar hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Sharks a 65-64 victory in the CIF second round match.

They were eliminated from the CIF playoffs despite winning the Mission League championship and finishing with a record of 21-7.

Point guard Yoyo Greenfield ’07, the lone senior on the team, scored 14 points in her final game as a Wolverine. Nicole Hung ’10 and Nicole Nesbit ’10 continued their impressive freshman seasons as they scored 20 and 16 points, respectively.

In the lead for most of the game, the Wolverines were up 60-51 with three minutes remaining but could not hold on to the lead.
