    Hearing set for this Thursday

A hearing will take place tomorrow at the Sylmar juvenile court in the case of a 17-year-old former student being charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, said Patrick Smith, the student’s attorney.

“The family has reached out to the girl’s family and expressed its feelings,” Smith said. “You would be inhuman if you weren’t saddened. What happens to the young boy is based on what happened in the incident. Since the girl was hurt, it is relevant. Someone was hurt and nobody deserves it.

“There is an enormous sense of grief and sadness for the young girl,” he said.
The day after the student allegedly attacked a senior girl, school administrators believed the student was still at large. However, Smith said that immediately after the incident, the boy’s family  tried to contact the police department to inform them of his location. He said it was left in message form since it was in the late night and early morning.

“There has been some misunderstanding about it,” Smith said. He said he reached out to the school after receiving instruction from the family since the family felt an obligation to inform the school.
Smith said that there will be a few hearings over the next few weeks. Juvenile court proceedings are usually confidential.
