The Advanced Jazz Combo and the Jazz Explorers took the stage at a Studio City Italian restaurant last Sunday. The groups sandwiched a set performed by jazz teacher Shawn Constantinoâs four-piece band.
âIt really expedites the learning of jazz when students see professionals play and play side-by-side with professionals,â Constantino said when his band got up to play. The bassist and the guitarist in his band both teach music lessons to Harvard-Westlake students.
The show started at 7 p.m. and ended around 9:40 p.m. It was held in a second-story room at Vitelloâs. The Advanced Jazz Combo and Constantinoâs band played for about an hour each and the Jazz Explorers played for about 40 minutes.
Constantino plans to hold concerts at Vitello’s several more times this year. The audience had a special menu for the event. Vitelloâs hosts the concert annually.
