Lacrosse ends strong, narrowly misses CIF

Despite a 14-5 victory over rival Brentwood to close out the season, the lacrosse team finished fourth in league and failed to qualify for the CIF playoffs.

The team needed to win its final two games, but fell to Crespi 9-6 on April 22, eliminating them from playoff contention in the penultimate game of the season.  Still, they posted a 6-4 record in league that included sweeps of Brentwood and Windward and a road win against Chaminade.

The team was plagued by turnovers and poor shooting and struggled through the early portion of the season.

“I view this season as a learning experience because of how young we were,” Jordan Bender ’08 said.

On a team full of young players, seniors Michael Kim ’08, Mickey Einstein ’08 and Bender provided key leadership.  Still, there are several underclassmen waiting in the wings who have shown they are capable of playing at the varsity level, such as Tommy Ufland ’10 and Cory Wizenberg ’11.

“The team has a lot of potential,” Bender said. “We have a bunch of young guys who are really good and have a chance to lead the team.”
