Football trounces Rosemead, 45-6

The Wolverine football team laid it on early and did not stop for the rest of the game in a 45-6 throttling of a curtailed Rosemead team Friday night.

TeRhon O’Neal ‘09, the running back who has established himself early in the season as a team leader, scored two touchdowns in the first quarter which, along with Malcolm Caldwell-Meeks’ ’10 scoring reception, put the Wolverines ahead 21-0 at the end of the opening period.

The opposing Panthers were operating with a small staff as 13 players, including star running back Tra Sumler, were not playing due to disciplinary reasons.

“[The Panthers team] is better than they showed tonight,” head coach Vic Eumont said.

The Panthers, now 2-1, had won their previous two games by a combined score of 92-33.

Corey Vann ’09 received a Sean Berman ’09 pass for a touchdown in the second quarter. Meeks collected his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter.

Nicky Firestone ’11 recovered a Rosemead fumble that was returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Berman and the offense had little trouble picking apart the Rosemead defense, as evidenced by the final score, but had a hiccup in the third quarter when a Berman pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown.

The Wolverines play their next game on Friday at Alemany, and do not return to Slavin until the Oct. 18 homecoming game versus St. Bernard.
