Varsity football falls to Serra 24-7

Served their first loss in a league game this season, the Wolverines’ football team was overpowered by Serra 24-7 n an away game last Friday night.

TeRhon O’Neal ’09 accounted for the Wolverines’ only score with a one yard touchdown in the first quarter, but finished with only 19 yards against the stingy Serra defense. Wide receiver Corey Vann ’09 reeled in 11 catches for a total of 93 yards.

“We shot ourselves in the foot sometimes,” O’Neal said. “We had our opportunities. We dropped some balls and missed some blocks. We could have made a lot of plays. We’ve got to relax.”

Serra is undefeated this season, and is favored by many in the league to take the Del Rey title. The Wolverines, now 1-1 in league play and with a 4-2-1 overall record, fall to third place after the loss. They play their next game away against Verbum Dei this Saturday.
