Girls’ basketball beats Windward, advances to CIF Finals

By Alex Edel

The girls’ basketball team will advance to CIF finals after beating Windward 67-54 on Saturday. The team had lost twice to Windward this season.

The Wolverines started out strong, holding a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter, and held that lead for most of the game.

“This time we came out really intensely rather than the last times when we came out flat. We set a really good tone when we got the lead in the first quarter,” captain Nicole Nesbit ’10 said.

Nicole Hung ’10 led the team with 26 points. She was followed closely by Janine Zeldon ’10 with 16 points, Skylar Tsutsui  â€™11 with 10 and Nesbit with nine.

The squad will compete against Pacific Hills for the CIF title either Thursday, Friday or Saturday of this week at Mater Dei.

“We need to practice hard. We really need to box out and practice more physically to prepare for our very physical game [against Pacific Hills],” Amanda Horowitz ’10 said.
