Middle school houses play chef

By Jordan McSpadden

Sixteen teachers competed in the first-ever Harvard-Westlake Iron Chef competition Monday at the Middle School, with the ferret house coming in first place. The teachers-only competition was sponsored by middle school Dean of Faculty Susan Kallok.

The four judges were Vice President John Amato, Director of Studies Deborah Dowling, Assistant Plant Manager Carlos Razo and Athletics Administrative Assistant Scott Bello.

Each contestant had 10 minutes and $25 to spend in the cafeteria. They had 15 minutes to prepare a delicious lunch for the judges.

Each chef could be awarded a maximum of 20 points for their house by each judge, with 10 points for taste, five points for appearance and five points for uniqueness.
