Girls’ basketball wins first state championship

Head Coach Melissa Hearlihy has been selected by ESPN RISE as the 2010 Div. IV state coach of the year. After ten years coaching at Harvard-Westlake and another 15 seasons at Bishop Alemany, she has a total of 553 wins, putting her in the top ten of all-time career wins by ESPN RISE Cal-Hi Sports State Record Book & Almanac.

After 25 seasons of coaching, Hearlihy has won 17 league championships and 5 sections championships at Alemany and Harvard-Westlake. This season her coaching culminated with a 34-1 season, losing only to Mater Dei of Santa Ana, a team ranked first nationally by maxpreps.com. Along with the state coach of the year award, Hearlihy will also be walking away from this season with a league title, a regional title and a state championship.
