By David Lim

At the IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille, France, Amy Weissenbach ’12 secured a spot in the 800-meters final after placing second in her semi-final race this morning with a time of 2:05.84. She will run in the finals on Sunday against some of the top under-17 athletes in her event, representing seven different countries around the world.

Weissenbach along with teammate Cami Chapus ’12 are among the 41 members of the American team at the international track and field competition that began earlier this week. Chapus advanced to the 1500-meters final on Saturday after running a personal best of 4:22.69 in a preliminary heat.

Weissenbach, who currently holds the national high school record for the outdoor 800-meters with a time of 2:02.04, has the fastest personal best time out of all of her competitors in the final.

Chapus’ final for the 1500 starts at 9:15 AM tomorrow and Weissenbach’s begins at 8:30 AM on Sunday. Results from both events will be posted live at http://www.iaaf.org/live/wyc11/index.html.
