Vox Populi selected as Pacemaker finalist

By Allison Hamburger

Vox Populi was named a finalist for the 2010 National Scholastic Press Association Yearbook Pacemaker Award, the most prestigious high school journalism award.

Editors of the 2010 yearbook were Julia Cambre ’10 and Olivia Van Iderstine ’10.

The yearbook was last nominated for a Pacemaker in 2005, but it has not won the award since 2004, when advised by current Athletics Study Hall Coordinator Steve Shaw.

Pacemaker winners will be announced April 17 at the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association Spring National High School Journalism Convention in Anaheim.

Vox Populi is one of 15 yearbooks with 233-288 pages named a Pacemaker Finalist.

Adviser Jen Bladen said she found out that the yearbook was nominated when another adviser in Texas sent her a congratulatory text message. Bladen said that the staff is very excited about the Pacemaker nomination.

“They are really, really proud of it, and they should be because it’s a great book,” she said.
