Science Bowl teams fall to Lincoln, Bravo in regional competition

By Allison Hamburger

The Science Bowl teams lost in the 10th round to Lincoln High School and Granada Hills High School when they competed Saturday at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s 20th Annual Science Bowl Regional Competition.

The A team, coached by math teacher Kevin Weis, remained undefeated throughout the morning rounds, but lost against both North Hollywood High School A and Lincoln in the afternoon. The North Hollywood team won the regional competition and will compete nationally in Washington, D.C.

“We were doing really well this morning, but there were a lot of small things that added up that made it really hard for us to win,” said team A captain Justin Ho ’12. “It was hard for us to undo those mistakes.”

Computer science teacher Jacob Hazard coached the B team, which was captained by Sajjan Sri-Kumar ’12. The B team lost in the consolation bracket to Granada Hills.

The science quiz game competition hosted 30 high schools and 42 teams. North Hollywood has won regionally 14 out of the past 15 years.
