Vince Orlando, former Athletic Director at El Camino Real, officially joined Harvard-Westlake today as the third Athletic Director. He will join current Athletic Directors Darlene Bible and Terry Eledge and replace Terry Barnum, who was promoted from Athletic Director to Head of Athletics in April. Barnum replaced former Head of Athletics Audrius Barzdukas, who was promoted to Head of Upper School.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me,” Orlando said in the school’s press release. “Harvard-Westlake has an outstanding academic and athletic reputation and becoming a member of this community is truly an honor.”
Orlando will work on both campuses as the Director of Athletic Communication. He formerly served as the Athletic Director of El Camino Real for the past four years. He managed 22 varsity sports for the Conquistadors and oversaw 13 City Section Championships during his tenure, more than any other school during those four years. He also served as a history teacher, baseball coach and girls’ golf coach. He played baseball and football at Notre Dame High School before playing baseball at UC Irvine. Head of Harvard-Westlake Jeanne Huybrechts said in the press release that his experience as a player, coach and administrator give him great perspective for serving his new role.
“Through his experience and success as a leader of a very fine high school athletic program, Mr. Orlando has demonstrated that he has the skills, acumen and vision to help lead our athletic program to new heights in the years to come,” she said. “We are delighted that he is joining our team.”
