Aaron Huerta hired as new football program head

The football team hired Aaron Huerta as the new program head, the athletic department announced Friday.

Huerta last coached for Notre Dame High School, where he compiled a 16-8 overall record from 2018-2019, winning the Sunbelt league in 2018. In addition, he led the team to CIF Southern Section playoff appearances in both 2018 and 2019. Before Notre Dame, he was an assistant at Corona del Mar High School and Servite High School, and, at the former, was part of a team that won the California state title as well as 3 CIF titles.

Huerta said he is eager to join the school, and believes he has what it takes to lead a successful program.

“I am extremely excited to join the Harvard-Westlake family as Head of the Football Program,” Huerta said. “I fully understand, appreciate and look forward to the hard work and dedication it will take to build a great coaching staff, increase our numbers at the middle and upper schools and develop a football program that our school and community will be proud of. I believe my passion and work ethic will rub off on my players and staff and the positive results and excitement around Harvard-Westlake Football will follow.”

Head of Athletics Terry Barnum said he is excited for this next step for the football team.

“We are so proud to name [Huerta] as our Head Football Coach and have him lead our program,” Barnum said. “He has had incredible success coaching high school football in Southern California and his vision for what our program can be is exciting. A new chapter in Harvard-Westlake Football starts today and we are delighted to have Coach Huerta as our leader.”

Huerta will take over as program head, as well as middle school physical education teacher, on January 6th.
