    Acting students perform sonnets,

Performing arts teacher Christopher Moore’s “Actor and His Stage” class performed Shakespeare sonnets and monologues in a showcase performance Jan. 12.

“Actor and His Stage” is the beginning level acting class at the Upper School, where students work on building their improvisation, storytelling and other skills that help to better the student’s acting overall.

This semester, actors and actresses chose their own Shakespeare sonnet to work on and perform for the showcase.

Moore chose an additional comical or serious monologue for the student to perform depending on the student’s strengths and weaknesses.

“The Showcase is essentially their class final, but we like to think of it as just the fun icing on the cake we have been baking all semester,” said Moore. “I assign them either a serious or comedic contemporary monologue that is as close to age-appropriate as possible … They can use these monologues as audition pieces for the next several years.”

“When I’m in that class, I feel like I can do anything,” Erick Gredonia ’17 said. “Everyone is so much fun and energetic and very acceptable. Acting has to be my favorite class because not only am I growing as an actor, I’m growing as a learner watching my peers and sharing this beneficial experience.”
