Alumni selected as MacArthur Fellows

The MacArthur Foundation awarded fellowships to Ahilan Arulanantham ’90 and Josh Kun ’89 Wednesday.

The fellowships, often referred to as “Genius Grants,” come with an unconditional grant of $625,000 distributed over five years.

Arulanantham is a human rights lawyer working at the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California who specializes in securing due process for individuals facing deportation.

Kun is a cultural historian who works as a professor of communications at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

According to the MacArthur Foundation, fellows are selected for “exceptional creativity, promise for important advances based on a track record of significant accomplishment and potential for the fellowship to facilitate subsequent creative work.”
