Baseball loses for first time this season

The baseball team split their first Mission League series with Notre Dame last week, beating the Knights 7-1 March 17 but losing to them 3-4 March 20.

Behind a strong complete game pitching performance from Cameron Deere ’16, the Knights were unable to gain momentum in the first matchup and were held scoreless until the end of the game.
In the second game of the series, the Wolverines made a statement early after Leo Kaplan ’16 hit a double to drive Chase Aldridge ’15 home. But the Knights bounced back and scored four runs during the third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 lead. The Wolverines were forced to play catch-up for the rest of the game, and despite Kaplan’s 3 RBI the Wolverines lost and split the series for second time in three seasons.
The loss to Notre Dame was the first loss of the season for the Wolverines. They now have an overall record of 7-1 and a 1-1 league record. The squad next faces off against St. Francis at O’Malley Family Field tomorrow at 3:30. Last year, the Wolverines swept St. Francis 16-0 and 14-3.
They play St. Francis again on Friday before flying to Atlanta for the Perfect Game Swing tournament March 31 to April 3.
