On an emotional senior night, the boys’ basketball team defeated Chaminade Preparatory High School by a score of 76-66 on Jan. 29. The win moved the Wolverines to an overall record of 21-3 and a Mission League record of 6-0. It also secured the squad the number one seed in the Mission League Playoffs next week.

While the Wolverines controlled most of the game, the Eagles were able to cut the lead to four points with less than three minutes left in the game. The Wolverines would eventually go on a 9-3 to end the game.

The Wolverines received major contributions from their seniors in the win. Center Mason Hooks ’20 dropped 21 points, while small forward Brase Dottin ’20 added 14 points. Point guard Spencer Hubbard ’20 added 12 of his own, and forward Holden McRae ’20 had some great passes and a finish down the stretch. The four seniors all have been on varsity for the last three seasons and were honored before the game.

The team also paid tribute to former Laker great and AAU coach Kobe Bryant by holding a moment of silence before the game and warming up in Bryant’s old jerseys. Players wore jerseys from many different parts of Bryant’s career; most wore their Bryant Laker jerseys, and forward Truman Gettings ’21 even wore Bryant’s Lower Merion High School jersey. Bryant and his daughter Gianna were among nine killed in a helicopter crash Sunday morning.

The Wolverines’ next game will be in the Mission League playoffs on Monday night
