Boys’ basketball defeats Chaminade, Newton injured

Despite an injury to its top scorer, the boys’ varsity basketball team faced little trouble against Chaminade on Wednesday, defeating the Eagles 58-46.

The Wolverines’ season leading scorer Derick Newton ’14 suffered a popped shoulder injury early in the first quarter of the game and would not return. The injury is serious according to head coach Greg Hilliard, and no timetable for Newton’s recovery has been set.

Mike Sheng ’14 and Bryan Polan ’14 helped pick up the slack, leading the team in scoring with 14 and 11 points respectively.

The Wolverines are now 11-4 on the season with a league record of 2-1. They will next face Alemany at home on Jan. 11, followed Loyola at Occidental College on Jan. 16.
