Boys’ basketball faces Santa Monica in season opener

By Robbie Loeb

The boys’ basketball team’s season began with a 60-57 loss to Santa Monica in the Pacific Shores Tournament Tuesday night.

Small forward Josh Hearlihy ’12 had the opportunity to tie it up at the charity stripe with four seconds left after getting fouled while attempting a three-pointer. Down by three, Hearlihy missed all three of his free throw attempts, sealing the Wolverines’ defeat in the season opener.

The Wolverines beat Santa Monica in their matchup last year, 80-60.

The tournament consists of six rounds and 16 teams, and will last all this week at Redondo Union, from Monday through Saturday.

Last season, the team lost in the third round of the tournament to Compton.
