Boys' basketball no longer perfect, fall to Chaminade in final seconds

By Robbie Loeb

The first loss of the boys’ basketball team’s season in league play came at the hands of Chaminade last night, 44-42.

Chaminade junior guard Jaron Martin nailed a game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds remaining. Martin finished with 30 points.

It was an overall poor offensive output for both teams, with only two Wolverines logging 10 or more points. Center Zena Edosomwan ’12 scored 15 points and point guard Michael Sheng ’14 added 10. The Wolverines’ had averaged 67 points in league games before the loss.

The Wolverines only shot 36 percent from the floor, but dialed in five of 11 from beyond the arc.

Edosomwan led the team in rebounding, pulling down 15 boards.

The Wolverines’ leading scorer on the season, Derick Newton ’14, only had six points and two boards.

The Wolverines play their next game Friday in a highly-anticipated rivalry matchup with rival Loyola, led by sophomore point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright.
