Boys’ cross country wins CIF championship, girls finish 2nd

By Alex Leichenger

Boys’ cross country heads into next week’s state championship meet with momentum after winning the CIF Division IV championship on a rain-soaked Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College. It was the first CIF title for boys’ cross country in school history.

Kevin On ’11 (5th overall) was the top finisher for the Wolverines, who are ranked number one in Division IV.

The second place girls’ team was unable to repeat its CIF title, but Cami Chapus ’12 finished first overall in the girls’ Division IV race. Amy Weissenbach ’12, the team’s second fastest runner, sat out the race due to injury.

Both teams advanced to Saturday’s state meet at Woodward Park in Fresno. The boys are coming off a fifth place finish in last year’s state meet, while the girls are attempting to defend their state championship. Chapus hopes to defend her individual state title crown as well.
