Boys’ soccer advances to CIF semifinals

    By Alex Leichenger

Needing only two goals in their last two games, boys’ soccer has advanced to CIF Southern Section Division I semifinals for the first time in school history.

After defeating 2009 Southern Section runner-up Millikan 1-0 in their second round playoff game Tuesday, the Wolverines held off defending champion El Toro 1-0 yesterday. Charlie Porter ’12 scored for the Wolverines in the first half, and the defense took control for the duration.

Porter also scored the only goal in the team’s victory against Millikan.

“We’re a balanced team all around,” Head Coach Freddy Arroyo told the Daily News after the game. “We had some bumps in the Mission League but I think we’re starting to put it together at the right time.”

The Wolverines will face Edison March 2 in the semifinals. It will be their first road game of CIF playoffs since a first round victory over Royal.
