Boys’ water polo defeats rival in summer tournament

The boys’ water polo team defeated rival Mater Dei 8-4 in the California State High School Water Polo Championship Finals on July 17.

The team was successful despite center Felix Brozyna-Vilim ’17 being kept out of play due to a knee injury. Luke Henriksson ’17 lead in scoring with 5 goals while goalie Sam Krutnog ’18 made 15 saves during the match.

The team has played the Monarchs in the past three CIF-SS Division I Finals, defeating them the first two years before losing in the 2015 season.

Both teams have members of last years’ line-ups named to Team USA. Ben Hallock ’16 and Thomas Dunstan from Mater Dei will be playing together in Rio during the upcoming Olympics.
