Brentwood win keeps lacrosse CIF hopes alive

With a 10-5 victory against rival Brentwood, the lacrosse team kept its slim hopes of reaching CIF playoffs alive. The win brought the team’s record to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in league. Despite the solid win, the Wolverines failed to hold Brentwood to a lower goal total, which would have helped the team’s goal differential — a tiebreaker for CIF. They must win their final two league games to force a four-way tie for the playoffs. Brentwood kept it close early, but the Wolverine defense tightened and gave the offense a chance to put the game away. Tyler Wallace ’09 scored a second half insurance goal on a pass from Greg Myerson ’09 and was rewarded with the game ball.

“I feel really good,” Wallace said of his first goal on varsity. “Greg had a great feed, so it all worked out.”

Several penalties against Brentwood led to plenty of scoring opportunities. The team was able to cash in on most of its power play chances to build their lead. Seniors Michael Kim ’08, Wyatt Parker ’08 and Jordan Bender ’08 all gave strong performances as their high school careers are nearing a close.

“I told the guys to be Johnny on the Spot,” Head Coach Mark Haddad said.
