    1. For what position are you running?

I am running for female senior prefect.

    2. What makes you feel that you are qualified for the position? Please describe any leadership experiences you’ve had, if applicable.

I think I should be Class Prefect because I have the characteristics of one. These past two years, I have had the pleasure of serving as sophomore and junior prefect. Through the many events and decisions I have contributed to, nothing can explain how passionate I am about assisting this community through the council.  I am very assertive to the needs of others and have good judgment when it comes to making important decisions. Being prefect is hard work, but my outlook on difficult tasks brings energy and enthusiasm to the table. From many years of competitive team sports, I have learned that the best results come from working as a team. I have had experience with the Honor Board, which gives me a unique outlook on the Honor Code. I am reliable and trustworthy, two traits very important in the bond between all faculty, students, and prefects.

    3. How do you feel about the Honor Board and what has led you to feel this way?

Through my experience on the Honor Board, I feel it is extremely important. Every person, every situation, and every case is different and should always be approached that way. The Honor Code is the backbone of Harvard-Westlake and in being part of this community, it is the job of the Honor Board to be accountable and help the student learn from the violation and earn back the respect of the community. Community trust is very stressed in the presence of a misconduct, and rather than being a punishing group, the Honor Board is clear about the importance of doing the right thing not because you will be disciplined but instead because each individual was chosen to contribute to this school and is given that trust and responsibility.

    4. Please describe one thing in Harvard-Westlake’s community you would change. Also, how would you use the influence of the position of Junior/Senior Prefect to change our community?

To me, Harvard-Westlake is a school where students from all different areas, with different strengths and talents, can excel together. As a collective group, we have a very solid base, but my goal, as prefect would be to add and refine to make us even stronger. One of the things that attracted me to Harvard-Westlake in the first place was the high standard in which students, athletes, and artists held themselves to on a daily basis.  Year by year, each class elects new prefects, vowing that they will make significant changes to the school in order to fit the class’ needs. This upcoming year, expect more from your prefects. Challenge them the way you challenge yourselves on the field, in the classroom, or on the stage. Step by step and year by year, Harvard-Westlake can become an even better environment for the next generation of leaders. When I look at how the deans approach certain situations and how we students respond, I see a certain communication barrier between their disciplinary rules, and our desires to become a little more independent. Let the prefects be the link. As prefect, I would spend a lot of time with the deans, making sure they are aware of the student’s ideas, while also respecting their decisions. One of my goals is to serve the community in a better, more effective way. To clarify, the community includes not only the students, but also the teachers, deans, administration, and even parents. All these people, including your piers, are supportive of each other and of the individual grades.  I believe we have a great community, but I plan on making Harvard-Westlake become a family, where we can lean on, encourage, help, and build up each other.
