Chris Simpson resigns as girls’ tennis head coach after 14 seasons

Tennis coach Chris Simpson has resigned as girls’ varsity head coach after fourteen seasons with the team, the Athletic Department announced in a press release today. He will continue to be head coach for the boys’ varsity program.
“This was a very difficult decision for me to make,” Simpson said. “Coaching girls’ tennis at Harvard-Westlake has been a significant part of my life for many years. However, the time is right for me to step aside and allow someone else to lead the program.”
Since the squad’s success in 2001, Simpson led the team to its 134-4 Mission League record. His teams have won 13 league championships and competed far in CIF play. This year he guided the team to its seventh consecutive league title.
“Chris has done an amazing job with our girls’ tennis program,” Head of Athletics Terry Barnum said. “We have enjoyed great success under his leadership and are grateful for all that he has given to our school.”
The Athletic Department has begun looking for a replacement for Simpson’s position.
