Cross country places 6th and 11th at State Finals

A week after qualifying for State with top three finishes, both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams finished top 12 in California State Championships Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The girls’ team  finished sixth overall in Division IV at the Championships. The team was led by Lizzy Thomas ’14, who finished 20th with a time of 19:07. Rachel Porter ’16 also placed in the top 50, finishing 37th with a time a mere 29 seconds slower than that of Thomas. Although the two were the only Wolverines to trump 20 minutes, three other girls’ Wolverine runners finished within the top 100, including Nicole Araya ’16, Monica Nimmagada ’14, and Lauren Jones ’16.

The boys’ team, which finished 11th overall in Division IV, was led by Jack Stovitz ’16, who, with a time of 16:37, finished 35th individually. Seniors David Manahan ’14, Jeremy Bradford ’14, and Ben Greene ’14 also eclipsed the top 100 individually in their last race as Wolverines, boasting times under 17:30.
