Cuba film screening postponed

Student-made digital storytelling projects from the semester-break Cuba trip will screen June 8, instead of the original date of May 20, at 7 p.m. in Ahmanson Lecture Hall.

The date of the screening was postponed in order to give students more time to edit their work. Visual Arts Department Head and trip chaperone Cheri Gaulke said that the students were not ready by the May 20 deadline.

“Of course we want our students to show their best work and be successful,” Gaulke said. “I’m really getting excited about the progress students have been making.”

The projects, which include films, photos and blogs, address topics ranging from Cuban baseball to Cuba’s relations with the United States.

Trip participant Sophia Dienstag ’17 said she thinks that postponing the screening is a good decision, as students would otherwise be unprepared.

“[Making the projects] takes a lot of work and a lot of time,” Dienstag said. “I think fitting that in with all of our schoolwork proved a little challenging.”
