Deans revoke parking passes after students drive in center lane

Security guards revoked parking passes from about 20 students Thursday who were driving in the center left turn lane on Coldwater Canyon for more than 200 feet.

Drivers can legally drive in center lanes for no more than 200 feet, according to the California DMV Handbook.

The punishments varied between students and deans, since deans individually decided for how long each student’s pass would be revoked, dean Beth Slattery said. Some were revoked for a few days, while the maximum was one week.

Juniors and seniors driving in the center lane initially had their passes taken in the morning by security guards, who turned them over to the deans, Head of Security Jim Crawford said.

Last March, the school had reported an increase in students driving in the center lane and urged teachers and security guards to report students to Assistant to the Head of Upper School Michelle Bracken.
