The Huntington Beach field hockey team proved to be too much for the Wolverines to handle, as their season came to an end following a 2-0 loss in the CIF semi-finals on Nov. 2.
Last year’s team also lost in the semi-finals against Newport Harbor when Newport scored the only goal of the game as time expired in overtime.
“Compared to past years, we’ve really connected as a team and played like one as well,” Annie Wasserman ’13 said. “Regardless of the end result, you could really see our cohesiveness both on and off the field.”
The team only lost five games all season, twice to Huntington Beach and three times to Glendora.
“We needed to step to the ball sooner, beat our opponent to the ball at every chance and get shots on goal off quicker,” Wasserman said.
Considering the mostly successful season this team had, the future is bright because nine of the 19 players on the squad are underclassmen.
They played a consolation game against Glendora on Nov. 3, and lost 1-0, who they had lost to twice in league before.
Kristen Lee ’12 and Taylor Lee ’13 earned all-tournament honors.
