The Wolverines defeated the Jefferson Democrats 55-20 in their second non-league game Friday night.
Although the Wolverines led in the first quarter, the Democrats came back to tie the score in the second quarter. The Wolverines began to pull away before halftime, leaving the score at 34-20.
QB Jameson Wang ’20 had two rushing touchdowns, one passing touchdown and one interception. Captain Thomas Glover ’18 had one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown. Running back Loyal Terry ’19 also had one rushing touchdown.
Despite not playing running back in the team’s prior game against Birmingham, Jake Kelly ’20 also scored two touchdowns to put the Wolverines ahead early in the game.
Jones led the team with two interceptions.
“Cam Jones’ pick six was a great play and a real momentum shifter last night,” captain Will Goldberg ’19 said.
Defensively, the Wolverines locked down the Democrats in the second half and held them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
“Our goal at that point changed from winning the game to blowing Jefferson out,” linebacker Kevin Chen ’19 said.
On special teams, Jeremy Yariv ’18 drilled seven out of eight extra point attempts. The team blocked a kick during the first half of the game after Jefferson’s first touchdown.
The Wolverines’ next game will be away against Garfield High School next Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
“We are going into next week with a lot of confidence into a tough environment at Garfield High School,” Goldberg said. “They will have a big crowd and an electric atmosphere. It will be tough, but we believe we can win.”
