Football wins third straight to open season

Coming off of two consecutive victories at home, the football team won its first away game of the season against Garfield 27-19.

The Wolverines’s rushing attack accounted for all four of their touchdowns. Quarterback Jameson Wang ’20 ran for three scores, all coming on read-option runs. Playing in just his second game at halfback, Jake Kelly ’20 added another touchdown run, bringing his total to three on the season.

The Wolverines scored early on Wang’s first touchdown and never relinquished the lead.  After the Bulldogs scored in the second quarter to bring the game within a single point, the Wolverines answered with Kelly’s long touchdown run.

Kelly intercepted a pass on the Bulldogs next possession, setting up one final read-option score by Wang heading into the half. Wang added his third touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

As Garfield mounted a final comeback attempt, the Wolverines closed out the game with another interception near the goal line to seal the victory.

The Wolverines will play El Camino at home Friday night at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on HWTV.
