Giolito ’12 to make White Sox debut

The Chicago White Sox announced that right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito ’12 will make his debut with the team Monday against the Minnesota Twins in a doubleheader at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The Sox acquired Giolito, as well as Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning, in a trade with the Nationals for Adam Eaton. Giolito was the 16th overall pick in the MLB Draft by the Nationals in 2012. The pitcher had four starts with the Nationals last season and posted a 6.75 ERA.

With Triple-A Charlotte this year, Giolito has a 4.48 ERA, 59 walks, and 134 strikeouts in 24 starts. He recently rebounded and is 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA in his last five starts.

The team also promoted right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech from Double-A Birmingham to Triple-A Charlotte.

The Sox are in last place in AL Central and have the second-worst record in the MLB, now 45-73.
