Girls basketball beat Marymount 74-26 today, marking their 14th win of the season, despite the absence of starter Jayla Ruffus-Milner ’18.

The team is now 2-0 in the Mission League after a win against Flintridge Sacred Heart on Tuesday.

Today, the team got off to strong start, going up 12-0 within minutes, and letting up only four points in first quarter. Head coach Melissa Hearlihy praised the team’s shooting ability.

“Shooting well from the perimeter will be what sets us apart from everyone else,” Hearlihy said.

This was the teams’ largest margin of victory so far this season, winning by 48 points and holding Marymount under 20 points at halftime. Wing Ella Price ’20 said that despite a strong track record against Marymount that the team had to deliver.

“Even though we beat [Marymount] twice last year, didn’t mean we could just go out there and expect to play well,” Price said. “We still had to execute and do the things we practice everyday.”

Center Kiki Iriafen ’21 led the team in scoring with 18 points through three quarters and forward Genesis Aire ’19 finished with 14.

Hearlihy said she was pleased with the freshmen on the team and their impact in games.

“Iriafen a 6’1 freshman is averaging a double double, 5’4 shooting guard in Kimiko Katzaroff [’21] can shoot threes deep and has a great floater, our last freshman brings great energy to the floor and is very scrappy in Krista Seeman [’21].

The teams next game is against Salesian on Saturday in the St. Mary’s Shootout.
