Girls’ golf continues unbeaten streak against FSHA

The varsity girls’ golf team continued to dominate in their match  Thursday, keeping their winning streak alive with a comfortable 219-252 league victory against Flintridge Sacred Heart (1-2, 0-2 in Mission League play) at the Encino Golf Course.

The common theme of freshman dominance was on display again, as Karina Gou ’18 and Josie Baker ’18 tied for the match’s best overall score, with 41 strokes needed apiece for nine holes, with Gou  needing a mere 15 putts to cover the half-course. Veterans Carolyn Hong ’17 and Paula Lahera ’16 put up individual seasonal bests with 44 and 45 strokes, respectively.

Coach Marge Chamberlain was satisfied with the win, saying: “We are a young team that continues to improve and find ways to score, even when our ball striking is not its best. We emphasize chipping and putting and strive to be mentally tough.”

Now at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Mission League play, the Wolverines head into a crucial match-up with the defending league champion  Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, the current #1 team in the Los Angeles Daily News poll.  Sherman Oaks Notre Dame is also 3-0, 2-0 in league.  The match will take place at the Encino Golf Course on Sept. 16, at 3:15 p.m.
