Girls' golf knocks off Alemany in battle of the unbeatens

In the varsity girls’ golf team’s first match of the week (due to weather-related cancellations Sept. 16), the Wolverines edged previously unbeaten Alemany (now 6-1 overall, 2-1 in the Mission League) in a tightly contested 222-229 match on Sept. 18 at the Hansen Dam Golf Course.

Continuing the pattern from every other match this season, a freshman led the team in scoring, as Josie Baker ’18 hit the course’s par score with 37 strokes for nine holes (including only 15 putts). Classmate Karina Gou ’18 added some support, with an impressive 40 strokes needed.

Not only did the Wolverines knock Alemany from the undefeated ranks, but they also defeated their second top-10 opponent according to the Los Angeles Daily News, as the Warriors were eighth in the newspaper’s Sept. 8 poll (in which the Wolverines were unranked).

The team, now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play, next plays in the league-wide Mid-Season Tournament at the Hansen Dam Golf Course at 10 AM, on Sept. 23. Their match that was initially supposed to take place on Sept. 16, against Notre Dame (3-0 overall, 2-0 in Mission play), has been rescheduled to Sept. 24 at 3:15 p.m., also on the Hansen Dam Course.
