Girls’ golf rebounds with dominating win over Chaminade

After being out of action for eight days since their first dual match loss to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, the varsity girls’ golf team put those lingering demons to rest with a lopsided 207-277 win over league foe Chaminade (1-7, 0-6 in Mission League play) at the Woodley Lakes Municipal Golf Course on Thursday.

Harvard-Westlake’s freshman phenoms got the job done once again; Karina Gou ’18 led the team with a 1-over-par 38, and Josie Baker ’18 was right behind with a 39 for the day. Team Captain Vivian Lin ’16 tied her own seasonal best with a 41, and Carolyn Hong ’17 also had a nice round, needing 43 shots with only 15 putts. Overall, the team’s score of 207 was their lowest in a dual match this year, and Head Coach Marge Chamberlain seemed pleased with the performance.

Our team is maturing and our players are beginning to lower their scores dramtically.  Practice and mental preparation are paying off.  We continue to rally around each player’s personal success, and this creates a great team atmosphere,” she said.

The Wolverines, now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in Mission League play, next compete at the Walnut Invitational tournament on Oct. 6th at 8 A.M., at the California Country Club. Their next dual match will be against new Mission League competitor Marlborough (5-2 overall, 4-1 in league), the following day at 3 P.M. at the Wolverines’ home Encino Golf Course.
