Girls' soccer avoids loss with tying goal in final minutes

In a six goal thriller, the Harvard-Westlake girls’ varsity soccer team tied El Camino Real in their second game of the season, 3-3.

Although El Camino Real opened the scoring up early on, the Wolverines were awarded a penalty moments later after Chloe Castaneda ’15 was fouled in the penalty box.

Team captain Hannah Lichtenstein ’13, took the penalty and the ball sailed into the back of the net.

After the start of the second half, El Camino Real went on the offensive and scored two consecutive goals. However, the Wolverines fought back as Lichtenstein scored again with about ten minutes remaining, and Quinn Frankel ’16 scored the equalizer in the dying minutes of the game.

“Well I knew once we went to four forwards that something was going to happen, particularly with all the talent we have offensively,” Lichtenstein said. “Once we got the second [goal], I think the momentum shifted a bit and we picked up on that to push for the third [goal].

The team’s next game will be against Mira Costa on Dec. 7.
