Girls Tennis sweeps first day of individuals

After one day of individual matches, all Wolverine competitors are still standing.  Singles player Natasha Brown ’07 won her match in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0, while Ally Kalt ’09 had some more trouble with her singles matches.

As the only unseeded Wolverine, Kalt had to play two matches, winning the first 6-1, 6-0, and the second one after her opponent retired.  In doubles play, Caroline Richman ’09 and Lauren Moy ’07 won their match 6-0, 6-2, while Cassidy Horn ’08 and Nicole Hung ’09 won 6-0, 6-1.

After starting the season with a non-league record of 0-4, the girls’ tennis team stepped up its play to end the season with a league record of 9-1 and an overall record of 11-2 in the last 13 matches of the season.

“The big difference between the beginning of the season and now is how hard we’ve trained as a team,” Richman said.

“At the beginning of the season we were playing as individuals, but now we’ve began to accept each other as a team and we are playing better.”

“I feel like we have a chance to go far in the playoffs this year.  We made it to the CIF semifinals last year and we plan on winning it all this year,” said Richman.

The girls beat Notre Dame 13-5 to end the regular season.
