Girls’ Volleyball defeated Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (25-15, 26-24, 25-16) in their first league match on Sept. 4 in Taper Gymnasium. The Wolverines, now 1-0 in the Mission League, advance to 14-3 on the year after a series of non-league games to start their season.

The Wolverines established their dominance early with a powerful kill streak from outside hitter Britt Gronemeyer ’20. The squad was able to maintain their lead throughout the game and win the set by 10 points, silencing the young Tolog team with their energy and experience.

“I thought that we communicated really well on and off the court today,” Gronemeyer said. “Everyone came together as a team and it had a significant impact on the final score.”

The Wolverines were able to continue their success in the second game despite a late push from the Tologs. Outside hitter Carly Wallace ’20 became the staple of the Wolverines’ offense, displaying both her athletic and leadership skills when the squad was in need of a run.

“I think our energy was good and the fans really showed up for us,” Wallace said. “It made a difference right away and contributed to our strong start.”

Led by team captain and setter Lindsey Kelly ’19, the Wolverines were able to defeat the Tologs easily in the third set highlighted by strong serving runs from fellow senior Bianca Bergsneider ’19. Going forward, the squad is hoping to incorporate their young talent to maximize their chances of winning.

“The underclassmen have really come through for us so far,” Kelly said. “It’s only going to get better and better throughout the season as they get more comfortable and we spend more time training together.”

The Wolverines hope to continue their success on Sept. 7 when they take on Marymount HS in Taper Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
