Girls’ volleyball ends season in State playoff loss to Torrey Pines

After falling to La Salle in three sets in the Division IA CIF Playoff Finals, the varsity girls’ volleyball team ended their season in a 3-0 loss to Torrey Pines Tuesday. The Wolverines were defeated by the Falcons 2-0 earlier in the year in the Cali Challenge semifinals, and were not able to pull out a victory in their second meeting; losing to the Falcons 25-18, 25-19, and 25-16.

The squad finished off their season in 1st place in the Mission League, and entered the Division IA CIF Playoffs as the three seed. The team went on to defeat league rival Notre Dame in the semifinals in order to compete against La Salle in the finals. The Wolverines completed the year with a league record of 9-1 and an overall record of 27-10.

The squad will look forward to next year, where underclassmen will have to fill the roles of seven departing seniors. Juniors Mila Barzdukas ’15, Kayla Dillard ’15, and Rachel Savage ’15 all had huge impacts on the teams success this year, as well as sophomore Zoe Baxter ’16 who helped anchor the back row of the Wolverines.
