The girls’ water polo team beat Notre Dame High School 21-6 on their senior night at the Copses Family Pool today. The Wolverines started off strong, outscoring the Knights 11-1 in the first half, and they kept pushing in the second half as they scored another ten goals.

Prior to the game, the team honored their seniors, Sonya Ribner ’19, Taylor LaCour ’19 and Emily Hilliard ’19.

“It was super exciting to get a win on senior night,” Hilliard said, “Notre Dame talks about beating us every year and this game I think will finally be the end to that talk.”

Lacour said the senior night win meant more because of how close the team is.

“Over the past 4 years I have become best friends with all of the girls on the team,” LaCour said. “Our bond is just made stronger because of how much time we spend together in and out of the pool.”

The team moved up into CIF open division this year from division three, presenting the team with fiercer competition leading to a 12-9 record. This comes after last year they had the best season in school history as they went 27-3 and reached the state finals.

After going undefeated in league, the team’s final regular season games will take place during the Irvine Tournament. Their first match is against Orange Lutheran High School on Thursday at Foothill High School.
